When you pick an offer and leave CarVS to book on a partner site, the partner may pay us a commission for the referral. That is the entire business model. The partner sets the final price at checkout — their taxes, their fees, their counters — and we never add anything to it. You would pay the same amount arriving at the partner directly.

Commission also buys no influence over the board. Results render in the order the feed returns them under whatever sort you choose. We cannot edit a price, bury an agency, or invent a deal, because the numbers exist only at search time, in your browser, assembled by our proxy from the feed — nothing about a given quote is stored where it could be massaged later.

Offer and location data come from Kayak’s rental-car API (served through RapidAPI). Every request runs through /api/vs/* — a thin proxy on our own infrastructure that attaches our credentials. The key lives only server-side; it never ships to any browser, any page source, or any public repository. When you search, our servers talk to the provider on your behalf and hand the result to your screen.

Rental-car prices move constantly — agencies rebalance inventory, currency and tax mixes shift, classes sell out and reappear. Two searches minutes apart can legitimately disagree. The board shows what the feed returned at the moment of your search; when a board serves recently fetched results instead of fresh ones, the badge says so (CACHED · n MIN AGO), and you can always refresh for a live fetch within the fair-use allowance described on How it works. Treat every number as an instant, not a promise.

Our static pages — company showdowns, city guides, explainers — publish fee structures, deposit bands and policy summaries drawn from rental companies’ own public policy pages, checked and date-stamped month-precision. Aggregate “typical range” figures are explicitly labeled estimates; they are descriptive spreads, not quotes, and they are never presented as an available price for your dates.

Per-offer prices appear nowhere in stored or baked form — not in the HTML, not in any database. They are fetched client-side per visitor, like flight sites. Writing assistance may be tool-aided, but structural claims are compiled from cited public sources and reviewed before publishing; AI output is never treated as a source. If you spot something wrong, write us and we will correct it with a dated note.
