Terminal counters sit steps from arrivals, but their rates carry concession recovery fees and facility charges levied specifically on airport transactions. Downtown and neighborhood locations generally shed the aviation-linked charges, which is why they frequently undercut their airport siblings on like-for-like vehicles. The costs move from the invoice to your schedule: you may need a shuttle, a rideshare, transit, or a walk, opening hours are often shorter, and weekend service at small branches can be restricted or closed entirely.

The honest comparison method is total-trip math, not headline-rate worship. Add the airport load to the quoted rate, subtract the cost and time of reaching an off-airport branch, weigh late arrival risk — an airport desk at midnight versus a neighborhood office that closed hours ago — and factor child seats, luggage volume, and winter conditions where relevant. Neither answer wins universally; a business traveler landing at noon and a family arriving late with ski bags face genuinely different equations on the same day in the same city.
